Hailed by critics for her “mournfully gorgeous playing” and “expressive virtuosity”, oboist Nancy Dimock has made a name for herself in New England and beyond. She is the Principal Oboe of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and the Springfield and Vermont Symphonies, and the Vista Philharmonic. She frequently performs as a guest with area ensembles including the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Portland Symphony, the Boston Ballet, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), Odyssey Opera, the Albany Symphony, Emmanuel Music, and A Far Cry. As principal oboist of the Honolulu Symphony, Nancy can be heard performing on the Grammy-nominated recording Rosemary Clooney: The Final Concert. During the summers, she can be heard performing with the Glimmerglass Festival Orchestra, in Cooperstown, NY.

As a soloist, Nancy has appeared with the Albany Symphony, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Indian Hill, and the Vermont Symphony, where with violinist Jaime Laredo, they performed the Bach Concerto for Violin and Oboe over twenty times.

As a chamber musician, Nancy is a member of the acclaimed Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston, and has collaborated with the Lydian String Quartet, the Jacques Thibaud Trio, the Craft Ensemble, and regularly performs with musicians from the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra on chamber concerts throughout Boston. Recently, she has been a guest artist at the Carolina Chamber Music Festival, in New Bern, North Carolina.

Nancy was a member of the Applied Music faculty at the University of Connecticut where she taught oboe for twenty years. Her students are music teachers and performers throughout the region. She is currently on the applied faculty of Tufts University and the Rivers School Conservatory.

Nancy studied with Joseph Robinson at the Manhattan School of Music and Alfred Genovese at the New England Conservatory, principal oboists of the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony, respectively. They were both also students of the legendary oboe pedagogue Marcel Tabuteau, whose teachings continue to educate and inspire oboists today.

Nancy has appeared on the NPR show “A Prairie Home Companion,” recorded for Albany Records, Chandos, and BMOP Sound. Some of these recordings have been nominated for Grammys and have appeared on NPR’s “Performance Today” and PBS’ “Great Performances.”

When not playing the oboe, you can usually find Nancy at her reed desk, though she occasionally will go for a hike. During the pandemic you could find her traipsing around the Blue Hills, pulling invasive species and trying to set foot on every trail.
